Butter Pot Provincial Park to ST JOHN’S 14

I woke up yesterday to the sound of rain hitting my tent. Thunderstorms actually. I was happy to see the heavy rain passed by 10am and I was able to start my last day on the road at 11am. On my way out of the camp I left my bear spray for the attendant as I wouldn’t be needing it anymore and Westjet has silly rules about compressed gas.

My ride was still a wet one, but no where near what I expected. Mostly just from the cast off from passing vehicles. It was also relatively downhill into St John’s so I literally coasted into my final city. My destination was to be the Terry Fox Memorial Monument but there is no access to the ocean from it. Rich arrived early so was able to scout everything out! As this is a bit of an “Everyman” tour we settled on the QuidiVidi Brewery near Signal Hill!

I arrived at 230pm to Paul, Rich and Jason waiting with champagne at the oceans edge. Amazing feeling that I could never put into words. Then just before I dipped Betty’s tire in the ocean I turned around to find my parents had drove from Ridgetown to surprise me! Completely caught me off guard as they spun a good story the last week of being in Northern Michigan vacationing!

We stayed in the Brewery parking lot for a few hours, bought some beer, thought we would take it back with us, never made it…bought more, never made it, then bought more…it made it back to our place! The owner of the brewery even came out to see what was going on, congratulated me and was happy we choose his location to finish the tour. With the amount of beer I “sampled” across the country it was only fitting the tour end at a brewery. Great to share this memory with family and friends.

Headed back to the house we rented, great view of the harbour, few more beers, a shower and off to George Street! Hence why I wasn’t able to write my blog last night! Not really sure when the evening ended…let’s just say I am in no shape to bike today!

Over the next few weeks I will be posting my TOP 5 lists, so the blogging is not done yet! Thank you everyone who followed along, hope you enjoyed the ride just as much as I did!

Daily Cycle: 42.7km
Daily cycle time: 1hr 57min

TOTAL DISTANCE: 8,392km
TOTAL TIME BIKING: 419hrs 1min

I had a friend who made the trip about 15 years ago and then 2 years later he did it again, this time going east to west. That was before Iphones etc. He pretty much just disappeared for 3 months.Following your adventure made me appreciate what he did.
Thank you for sharing your amazing journey..

It was amazing to be there to see you finish and to join you and your friends in the celebration. We weren’t sure if your exclamation of OH SHIT when you saw us meant you couldn’t believe your eyes or oh no, my parents are going to put a crimp in my celebration with my friends! ! All our love, Mom and Dad
