Just to clarify, the previous post was Thursdays adventure…today I left Manning Lodge at 930am set to travel to Bromley Rock Provincial Park. I soon changed plans when I discovered this park doesn’t have showers or wifi. The first 20km were perfect to warm up the legs as it was mostly downhill. Now you would think downhill is awesome, but I quickly caught on that when in the mountains that usually means I will be going back up hill soon!
Sunday Summit was a challenge but nothing like the previous day, about 500ft climb over 8km. Same routine, cycle 100-200m then pause and do it again. Actually passed a couple walking their bikes up one of the steeper grades. They are from this area but heading east as well. That makes 4 people I have encountered doing a similar trip.
After the summit it is mostly downhill to Princeton and follows the beautiful Similkameen river. Note the grade warnings for Mine Hill which is on the east side of Sunday summit and I wore off a lot of brake pad down this ski slope! I thought downhill would be my friend but with the trailer 40+km/hr is my limit, anything more and it can get wobbly, not to mention watching for ruts an potholes that would spell instant road rash, if not worse. Call me cautious but I plan to avoid any local hospitals!
Camp was set up by 530pm ready for my dinner. The RV neighbour beside me sold me two Bud Lights, nice end to the evening. Note I am about 5m from the Similkameen river, can hear her rapids as I blog by the fire. Life doesn’t get much better than this…well the Leafs could still be in the playoffs.
